Asst. Prof. Dr. Ercüment Çiçek has been awarded an Aziz Sancar Incentive Award by the Health Institutes of Turkey (TÜSEB). The award aims to honor the scientific achievements of Nobel Laureate Aziz Sancar. The Aziz Sancar Incentive Award is given to young scientists who are under the age of 40 and have proven their potential to make international impact with their research.
Dr. Çiçek has been granted the award based on his research in the field of bioinformatics. His research topics include machine learning based discovery of genetic disease risk genes, ensuring the privacy of individuals in genomic data sharing and automated surgeon support systems.
Dr. Çiçek, got his Ph.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University in 2013. During his Ph.D. he has worked as a visiting doctoral student at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 2012. Then, he has worked in Carnegie Mellon University as a postdoctoral fellow. Since 2015, he has been working at Bilkent University as a full-time faculty member and at Carnegie Mellon University as an adjunct faculty member.
